Frequently Asked Questions

The U.S. Open Championship will be held at the Pinehurst Resort & Country Club, Pinehurst, No. 2 course designed by legendary Donald Ross. This 105th Open Championship is one of four major international championships held each year along with the Master's, the PGA Championship and the British Open.

In 1999, the USGA conducted its first U.S. Open Championship at Pinehurst famed No. 2 golf course and in a dramatic finale, the late Payne Stewart sank a 16 foot putt on the 18th hole to secure the championship.

Schedule of Events

  1. Practice Round
    Players will have the option of starting practice rounds on Monday, June 13 through Wednesday, June 15 with play beginning somewhere between 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
  2. Championship Rounfs #1 and #2
    Play is scheduled to begin approximately 7:00 a.m. from both the 1st and 10th tees with play expected to be completed at approximately 7:00 p.m., with the 36 hole cut taking place after Friday's play.
  3. Championship Rounds #3 and #4
    The first starting time is determined by the number of players to make the cut. The cut is defined as the 60 players with thelowest scores including ties plus any players within 10 strokes of the lead score. It is expected that the first pairing will begin play off the first tee sometime between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
  4. Playoffs - In the event of a tie for the lead after the end of 72 holes of play through Sunday, an 18-hole playoff will be held on Monday, June 20, 2005.
